St Peter's Hospice launches once-in-a-lifetime Kilimanjaro Challenge for 2028

St Peter’s Hospice is inviting adventurers, fundraisers and bucket-list seekers to take on one of the world’s most iconic trekking challenges while supporting local hospice care.

The charity has officially launched its Mount Kilimanjaro Trek 2028, giving supporters the opportunity to summit Africa’s highest mountain and raise vital funds for patients and families facing the most difficult times of their lives.

Taking place from 3–13 February 2028, the 11-day expedition will see participants trek 69 kilometres to reach the 5,895-metre summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s highest free-standing mountain.

From the savannah plains and lush cloud forests of Tanzania to alpine desert and the mountain’s arctic summit, every step taken will help fund the compassionate care and support provided by St Peter’s Hospice.

Anyone interested in joining the challenge is invited to attend a free information evening on Tuesday 23 June, where they can learn more about the trek, fundraising support, training guidance and what to expect from the adventure.

The event will provide an opportunity to meet representatives from St Peter’s Hospice and expedition partner Global Adventures, ask questions and discover how to secure one of the limited places available.

Molly O’Donoghue, Events Fundraising Manager at St Peter’s Hospice, said: “For many, standing on the Roof of Africa is the ultimate bucket-list achievement. For those taking part with St Peter’s Hospice, it will also be a chance to make a lasting difference.

“Imagine reaching the summit and watching the world open beneath you, knowing every step of your journey has helped provide dignity, comfort and care to people in their final days.

“This truly is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we know that the 30 participants are going to have the most incredible journey, led by Global Adventures. Without challenges like this, we couldn’t continue our work in caring for patients and their families.”

Three registration options are available – full fundraising, partly self-funded and self-funded and with only 30 spaces available, anyone interested is being encouraged to register interest early.

Whether participants are experienced trekkers or taking on their first major expedition, comprehensive support will be provided throughout the fundraising and training journey.

St Peter’s Hospice is Bristol’s only adult hospice caring for people in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.
