Dive into a Frosty Adventure for 2026
- Cold Water Dip Takes to The Waves -
Bristol’s St Peter’s Hospice is inviting thrill-seekers to undertake a chilly challenge at an epic new venue for the charity’s annual Cold Water Dip fundraiser.
For the first time, the popular Cold Water Dip will be held at The Wave - the ‘slice of the ocean’ in Easter Compton, Bristol - and is scheduled to take place on 8 February 2026. There is both a morning (11am -12) or early evening (5pm - 6pm) dip option to choose from.
The Cold Water Dip is one of St Peter’s Hospice’s most well attended events, with participants signing up in their hundreds to brave the cold and raise funds for Bristol’s only adult Hospice.
Aside from the revitalising experience of the plunge itself, the event is rounded out with drinks, food, hot tubs and saunas, to make for a special day of challenge and fundraising.
“The Cold Water Dip is a wonderful way for people to challenge themselves, have fun and make a real difference to our charity,” said Molly O’Donoghue, St Peter’s Hospice Event Fundraising Manager.
“It’s so exciting that this year we will be hosting the event at inland surfing lake, The Wave. This is a truly stunning venue and it will prove to be our chilliest event yet! It’s a great way for people to kick off the New Year trying something new and out of their comfort zone.
“Every brave dipper helps us provide vital care and support when it matters most. People can dip solo, with friends or even bring along a squad to cheer them along. After braving the chill, participants can warm up in the hot tubs and sauna or cosy up inside and enjoy a well-earned hot drink.”
Julian Topham, CEO of The Wave, adds: “When the St Peter’s Hospice team asked us if we would consider hosting the Cold Water Dip event, it was a resounding yes! We are passionate about the benefits of being in blue space and of cold-water immersion. To run something so aligned to our core health and wellbeing beliefs - whilst also raising money for this incredible local charity - is an absolute joy for us. We hope we can help make this the biggest dip to date and look forward to welcoming hundreds of people into our waves in February.”
A £20 entry fee covers the basic costs of the event, with a 10% discount for returning challengers. Participants, who must be 18 or over, are encouraged to raise £125 by taking part.
There are morning or evening sessions available, so dippers can choose to dip in the morning amongst the excitement of the waves or enjoy the calm still water and twinkling lights in the evening.
The Wave is located in a beautiful rural site on the edge of Bristol, close to the M5. It was the first destination of its kind to open in the world and its innovative technology provides up to 1,000 waves of varying sizes and shapes an hour with heights starting at 50cm and peaking at almost 2m. As well as the lake, there is a food and drink outlet, surf shop, skate ramp, children's play area, green space, peaceful hideaways and safari tent accommodation in The Camp, open from Easter to October.
