Bath charity brings community together with inclusive Triathlon event

Bath-based charity, I Can & I Am, which helps nurture self-belief in young people, is excited to announce its latest Triathlon-4-All challenge taking place on Saturday 16 May 2026. It is the third time the charity is running this event, which offers a unique opportunity for people of all abilities and ages in the community to come together, enjoy the outdoors, and experience the positivity of taking on and completing a challenge.

Among those taking part will be I Can & I Am’s inspiring founder James Shone, who is registered blind. This has not stopped James from being instrumental in the charity’s energetic fundraising activities, including a gruelling 400km cycle around the circumference of Somerset on a tandem bike, in August 2025. The charity is also offering fundraising places on the 2026 Bath Half Marathon in March.

The Triathlon-4-All is based at the beautiful Dundas Aqueduct near Bath and consists of cycling, kayaking, and running (or walking). Many find the lack of swimming, the varying length of cycle ride and the option to walk rather than run very appealing. Children are welcome to take part, provided they are accompanied by an adult and are competent cyclists and confident swimmers.

Rebecca Burton, CEO of I Can & I Am, said: “We are very excited to offer this opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to live out the I Can & I Am message. It’s a chance to challenge yourself and discover what you can do and to experience the increase in self-belief in achieving something as part of a group.

“Every year we’ve had amazing feedback, with people saying they came away from the day with an incredible sense of personal achievement. The way the triathlon is structured means it genuinely does suit all levels, from those that rarely undertake any exercise or sport, to those that are regulars in the world of fitness.

“All money raised through the triathlon will go towards refurbishing our third double-decker bus so that we can start running even more of our self-belief workshops for young people in schools across the region.”

I Can & I Am travels to schools across the South of England delivering sessions aboard its distinctive double-decker buses to educate young people about the importance of self-belief and how they can control it. Sessions begin with cooking pizza downstairs to foster a sense of togetherness and achievement, followed by a small-group workshop upstairs that focuses on inflating the young participants’ ‘balloons’ of self-belief.

The Triathlon-4-All challenge begins with a cycle along Bath’s Two Tunnels path and onward toward Bristol on the Bristol-Bath Railway path. Cyclists can choose a return distance of 10km, 20km, or 40km, or simply turn back when they feel ready. After a picnic lunch at the Dundas Aqueduct, participants will set out in four-person kayaks along the canal toward the Avoncliffe Aqueduct. Distances can be adjusted to suit confidence and experience, and novices will be paired with more experienced paddlers.

The day concludes with a run or walk along the canal back toward Bath. Suggested return distances are 3km, 5km, or 10km, but participants are welcome to enjoy a leisurely stroll.

The day will run from 8:30am to 5:00pm, finishing with a chance to relax and celebrate at the Wheelwright Arms pub. The entry fee is £45 for adults (18+) and £30 for children under 18. Participants are encouraged, where possible, to raise additional funds in support of I Can & I Am’s work.
