St Peter's Hospice opens gardens to public for event

After a four-year hiatus St Peter’s Hospice opened its gardens to the public for a special event in September 2024. Now people are being invited to view the gardens in Summertime with a new open day set for Sunday 22 June.

The Hospice gardens, designed to be a therapeutic and welcoming space for patients and their families to relax, will be open from 10am-4pm with refreshments and guest talks also on the agenda.

As well as having the opportunity to learn more about the gardens, there will be craft workshops from Ffion Morgan, live music from Pizzazz orchestra, cream teas and tours from St Peter’s Hospice head gardener Anneke van Eijkern.

Guest talks will come from horticulturist Caradoc Doy and the National Trust’s youngest head gardener Sam Finch.

Event organiser and Community Fundraising Manager, Sophie Cullinane, said: “Visitors are welcome to visit the stunning Hospice gardens, learn more about their positive impact and enjoy refreshments in a beautiful and welcoming environment.

“The gardens are an important way to build a sense of community – patients, families and staff can come together and relax. They are lovingly crafted by our team of dedicated volunteers and our Head Gardener Anneke.

“This event is a way to help us continue to maintain a relaxing and welcoming space that supports people in our community when they need it most.”

The event will also include a raffle, a plant sale by Ogie Placido and greetings cards and knitted items for sale.

Sophie continued: “It’s exciting to be able to open our gardens up to the public again and we hope that people enjoy their time here. It’s so important for patients and visitors to look out and see a beautiful environment, or to be able to come outside for some peaceful reflection. Events such as this make all the difference in helping us to provide that.”

St Peter’s Hospice is Bristol’s only adult hospice providing inpatient care as well as community support to those with life-limiting illnesses.

It is expected that this popular event will sell out, so those interested are being encouraged to book online in advance to secure places.

The event will take place at the Hospice from 10am-4pm on Sunday 22 June. Open to all ages, tickets cost £8 each or are free for those aged 15 or under.
