Memory cafe returns to The Rectory care home in Taunton
A popular ‘memory café’ aimed at supporting people living with dementia and their families is returning to The Rectory Care Home in Taunton this May.
The free bi-weekly event will launch on Tuesday 20 May, offering a welcoming space for people to meet others facing similar challenges, enjoy refreshments, and find support.
Abbie Foster, manager of The Rectory, which is run by White Home Care Group, said: “We’re so pleased to be reopening the memory café to the community for another year.
"We want everyone to feel welcome, whether they're newly affected by dementia or have been living with it for years.
"The café is about bringing people together in a compassionate space where they can feel supported, whether they are seeking companionship or simply someone to talk to.
“Dementia can create a sense of isolation, both for those living with it and their families. The café is a place where people can connect with others, share experiences, and gain insight into practical ways they can improve their day-to-day lives.
“There’s no entry fee or cost for refreshments, and while donations are appreciated, the main aim is to offer a free, accessible service to all.”
The café will run from 10.00am to 12.00pm at The Rectory care home at 2 Trinity Road, Taunton, with singer Danny Jukebox providing music on the opening morning from 11am.
Guests can enjoy a selection of tea, coffee, soft drinks, and cakes, all free of charge, alongside a warm ‘listening ear’ from staff and other attendees.
The Memory Café is part of The Rectory’s ongoing commitment to providing compassionate care for those living with dementia.
The home offers a specialised service, catering to up to 25 residents. The café will be held every other Tuesday, starting on 6 May, with future dates confirmed at the event.
The Rectory Care Home is one of three homes run by White Care Group, which also manages St Benedict’s in Glastonbury, and St Cecilia in Shepton Mallet.
