All Souls Candlelight Service Returns to Bristol Memorial Woodlands
A popular service to mark All Souls Day will once again take place at Bristol Memorial Woodlands on Sunday 26 October.
The outdoor candlelit service, dedicated to remembering loved ones who have passed, has previously drawn crowds of more than 200, who gather to light candles and illuminate the Memorial Tree which stands in front of the venue’s Georgian Reception Rooms.
With choir performances, readings and a short secular service, the evening event has grown into one of the most well attended on the event calendar at the South Gloucestershire venue.
Christopher Baker, founder of Bristol Memorial Woodlands, said: “Our All Souls Candlelight Service is one of our most popular gatherings. While originally attended mainly by families with loved ones resting here, it has grown into a community event that welcomes anyone who wishes to remember and pay their respects.
“It’s an incredibly moving evening, seeing hundreds of candles placed around our Memorial Tree, and reminds us that we can still remember, celebrate and honour the loved ones we have lost.
“All Souls Day has significance in many religions and is celebrated across the world. It provides people with a meaningful occasion to remember and reflect upon their departed loved ones.”
Everyone is welcome to join the celebration, regardless of a connection to the woodlands.
The service starts at 6.00pm and guests are asked to arrive from 5.15pm to receive their candles. Light refreshments are served in the Georgian reception rooms after the ceremony.
Guests are advised to wear warm clothing for the outdoor event and to email admin@memorialwoodlands.com stating their attendance so that catering can be supplied. Further information
