Spooky Fun for All the Family This Half Term at Dorset Museum & Art Gallery

This October half-term, from 25 October to 2 November 2025, the Dorset Museum & Art Gallery is inviting families to enjoy a week of spooky fun, creativity, and adventure. With a programme packed full of Halloween-themed trails, crafts, and eerie tales, there’s something for everyone to enjoy—and the best part is that kids go free.

The mischievous Spooky Ghost Spotting Trail will run throughout the week, encouraging visitors to explore the galleries while keeping their eyes peeled for a group of cheeky, funny ghosts hiding in unexpected places. Children and grown-ups alike will delight in spotting them peeking from behind displays or sneaking around corners.

Alongside the trail, families can get hands-on with Make & Take Autumnal Crafts, which run daily across half-term. These seasonal arts and crafts activities celebrate the colours and textures of autumn, giving visitors the chance to create decorations and keepsakes to take home and treasure.

On Tuesday, 28 October, the Museum will host special Folk Arts & Crafts sessions (10 am–12 noon and 1 pm–3 pm), where visitors can design and decorate their very own hobby horse, black cat, or creepy-crawly spider. With all materials provided, it’s the perfect chance to add a touch of handmade Halloween magic.

To top it all off, on 30 and 31 October from 2 pm to 5 pm, families can take part in the Haunted History Hunt, an atmospheric journey through the Museum that uncovers Dorset’s darker past. Visitors will discover eerie stories hidden within the collections and experience the region’s history like never before.

Half-term at Dorset Museum & Art Gallery promises spine-tingling stories, creative crafts, and plenty of family-friendly fun—all included with Museum entry. With free admission for children, it’s the perfect seasonal day out.
