St Peter's Hospice scores big with Bristol Rovers fans, raising £1,896 during Wear It Blue campaign

Bristol’s much-loved St Peter’s Hospice raised almost £2000 at a charity takeover at Memorial Stadium, thanks to generous Rovers supporters.

The charity raised £1,896 at Bristol Rovers’ home game against Barnet as part of its new ‘Wear It Blue’ fundraising campaign.

The special charity takeover brought together football fans, Hospice staff and volunteers to raise vital funds, celebrate the charity’s work and spread awareness of the care and support it provides to people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Spirits were high at the Memorial Stadium with St Peter’s Hospice organising a human fruit machine, face painting and a bucket collection. Hospice mascot, Lenny, was also there to meet fans and help spread the word about the charity’s work.

Before kick-off, Anne Exon, Social Work Assistant from St Peter’s Hospice, delivered a speech on the pitch, highlighting the importance of its work in the local community.

The takeover formed part of Wear It Blue, St Peter’s Hospice’s new fundraising campaign, which encouraged people to wear blue, show their support for the charity and help raise awareness and vital funds for its services.

Hayley Ali, Fundraising Events Manager, at St Peter’s Hospice, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Bristol Rovers and their supporters for making us feel so welcome and for their amazing generosity. It was wonderful to see so many fans getting involved, enjoying the activities and showing their support for St Peter’s Hospice.

“Raising £1,896 is a fantastic achievement and a brilliant boost for our Wear It Blue campaign. Every donation helps us continue supporting people with life-limiting illnesses and their families. The day was also a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness of our services and strengthen our connections with the local community.”

Adam Tutton, CEO of Bristol Rovers Community Trust, said: “St Peter’s Hospice provides vital care and support to people and families across our community, and we’re incredibly proud to help shine a light on the fantastic work they do.

“Turning the Memorial Stadium even more blue is a simple but powerful way to show our support, raise awareness and demonstrate what can be achieved when local organisations come together for a shared cause.

“As a community organisation, we believe it’s important to use the reach of Bristol Rovers to support charities that make such a meaningful difference to people’s lives, and we hope this initiative helps encourage even more people to get behind St Peter’s Hospice.”

Every pound raised will help St Peter's Hospice continue providing expert care and support to adults with life-limiting illnesses across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, as well as helping their families through some of life's most difficult moments.

St Peter’s Hospice receives only 20% of its funding through the government, with the rest made up of funds from fundraising events, generous donations and its retail shops. It costs around £30,000 a day to run the Hospice.
