St Peter's Hospice launches new nature-based grief group

Recognising the important role of connecting with nature in emotional wellbeing, Bristol’s St Peter’s Hospice has introduced a new nature‑based grief support programme.

The Nature of Grief drop‑in groups will be held at the Penny Brohn Centre, Pill, offering free sessions for adults who have lost a loved one to an incurable illness.

The sessions will run throughout the summer taking place on 21 July and 25 August and one further date in Sept (TBC), where senior psychological therapist Pippa Ford will lead the group with support from qualified nature-based practitioners.

The sessions will include lightly guided nature‑based practices, grief education, opportunities for quiet reflection and optional sharing, all with support from trained professionals.

“Spending time in nature can help bring moments of calm, reduce stress and offer a safe space for the complex feelings that come with grief,” said Pippa.

“We understand that joining a group environment while grieving can feel like a big step, but the sessions are designed to make that step as gentle and supportive as possible.

“We want people to know that anyone is welcome, whether they have previously received support from St Peter’s Hospice or not.”

Visitors are welcome to drop in on the day with no booking required for the 1pm-2.30pm sessions at Ham Green House, the home of the Penny Brohn Centre.

Taking place in the Natural Academy space at the venue, sessions will include some time outside, so visitors should arrive suitably dressed; the programme includes access for all mobility levels, including parking, accessible toilets and refreshments.
