Camelot Care opens new specialist dementia nursing home in Holsworthy
Award-winning dementia care providers Camelot Care have received the go-ahead from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to open their fifth specialist care home, Deer Park Nursing Home in Holsworthy, Devon, and expect to welcome their first residents in the next few weeks.
Every care home in England and Wales must be registered with the CQC before opening, needing them to satisfy the watchdog that they meet their stringent terms and conditions for safe and effective operation.
An open day will take place on Monday, 13th October 2025, from 11 am to 4 pm, giving members of the public the chance to look around the new service, with the mayor of Holsworthy, Cllr Jon Hutchings, officially opening the home at 11 am.
Located on Rydon Road in private grounds of approximately 1.8 acres, Deer Park Nursing Home will ultimately be able to accommodate 50 residents in individual bedrooms, each with its own wet room.
Camelot Care acquired the purpose-built property, previously Deer Park Care Home, in September 2024, and they have spent the past 10 months refurbishing it inside and out.

Registered manager, Suzanne Evans, said: “We are really proud of the bright, modern and calming interior, all carefully considered, using extensively researched NHS design principles for achieving dementia friendly environments.
“Our team of staff have been carefully selected for their sincerity and motivation, and the combination of a stimulating and pleasing environment together with the staff’s empathetic qualities promises to truly enhance our residents’ emotional wellbeing, leading to better care outcomes.”
Paul Teasdale, director of Camelot Care, said: “We are delighted to welcome the new Deer Park team into the Camelot Care family, and we’re excited about bringing much-needed nursing and residential dementia care to the local community.
“We are a family-run business with over 23 years’ experience in providing high-quality person-centred care, and we understand how to support our residents with dementia to live their best lives, welcoming the involvement of family and friends whenever possible.”
The thoughtful refurbishment has resulted in two lounges – the Lily Lounge and the Forget-Me-Not Lounge – as well as the Rose Dining Room, the Daffodil Conservatory, an in-house hair salon, and whimsically named areas of the home, such as Stag Lane, Antler Row and Elk Street.
Externally, the home has generous visitor parking and beautiful gardens.
Camelot Care has been providing residential dementia care since 2002 and currently runs four other homes in the South West: Butterfly Lodge in Plymouth; Camelot House and Lodge in Wellington; Avalon Nursing Home in Bridgwater and Chestnut Lodge in Yeovil.
