Third St Peter's Hospice superstore launched in Abbey Wood

Third St Peter's Hospice superstore launched in Abbey Wood

A third charity superstore by St Peter’s Hospice has opened in Bristol.

Located at the Abbey Wood Shopping Park in Filton, the new super-sized charity shop follows on from the success of the first two superstores in Clifton and Portishead.

Customers will be able to shop new and second-hand furniture, white goods, electricals and pre-loved clothing and accessories, all under one roof with money raised going to Bristol’s much-loved only adult Hospice.

The new-concept superstore was first launched by the charity in 2024 as a way to stock larger, household items which were in demand by customers. The charity also runs a free collection service, which allows people to donate large items easier, as well as a delivery service.

St Peter’s Hospice Retail Director, John Broomhead, said: “We’re delighted to be opening our third Superstore in Abbey Wood, following the success of our current offerings.

“Focussing primarily on furniture and homeware with smaller sections for clothing and accessories, these stores provide an invaluable service to customers who are perhaps struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and need an affordable solution to furnishing their home or purchasing essential items like white goods.

“We know that our customers really value sustainability and that extends to items in the home too. The gems you expect to find in our smaller charity shops are there to be found in our Superstores, but on a much larger scale.

“The Abbey Wood shopping park is a great location and I think it will become a welcome asset to the community in Filton.”

Claire Hazelgrove, the MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke, attended the opening. She said: “It was a real pleasure to be among the first to visit the brand new St Peter’s Hospice Superstore in Filton Abbey Wood. This fantastic addition not only provides vital funding for the Hospice – which supported 329 people in our constituency last year – but also brings a host of benefits to the local community.

“From creating local jobs and offering work experience opportunities through programmes like the Duke of Edinburgh Award, to connecting volunteers from across the area who are eager to give back and build new friendships, the Superstore is already making a meaningful difference.

I'm proud to welcome the shop and its dedicated team to Abbey Wood. There's something for everyone so do pop down to take a look!”

St Peter’s Hospice cares for adults with life-limiting conditions in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. Funds raised through the charity’s retail outlets go towards providing care to patients and their families. It costs around £30,000 a day to run the Hospice so every donation and every purchase makes a difference.

Shop Manager Nicholas Taynton said: “Our Superstore is a great place to find pre-loved treasures for your home and wardrobe. Every item you buy in our Superstore helps local people get the best possible end-of-life care.

“We also have an in-store donation station for supporters to drop off their high-quality donations, the sale of which also helps fund vital hospice care for people in the community.

“Our delivery service is a great extra, with our team on hand to deliver large items direct to your front door. Similarly, if you have large furniture to donate we will collect for free, making it as hassle-free as possible.”

St Peter’s Hospice, which operates more than 40 shops in the area, was recently named ‘Outstanding Charity Retailer’ at the 2025 Charity Retail Association Awards.

The awards celebrate excellence in charity retail and highlights organisations that go above and beyond in delivering value to their communities.
