Seaside smiles all around for care home residents

It was a day of salt air and happy hearts as residents from The Rectory Care Home in Taunton enjoyed a trip to the seaside.

The excursion to Burnham-on-Sea, organised by the home’s activities team, allowed residents to enjoy the sea views, relax on the promenade, and spend time together at a local café.

“Bright sunshine and fresh sea air made the day feel extra special,” said Abbie Foster who manages the 25-bed home for people with dementia in Trinity Road.

“It was wonderful to see residents enjoying a change of scene and spending time together.”

The trip was especially meaningful for Rectory resident Dorothy, from Burnham-on-Sea, who meet up with her husband Cedric, son Nigel and his wife, daughter in law, Jo.

"For Dorothy, returning to Burnham-on-Sea and seeing her family here was really special,” added Abbie. “It’s great to see residents reconnect with places that are important to them."

A highlight of the visit was a stop for fish and chips or a cooked breakfast at a café on the promenade, making it a perfect end to a sunny day by the sea.

The Rectory is a multi-award-winning home near the centre of the Taunton and offers regular outings as part of its activities programme. It is one of three homes run by White Care Group, alongside St Benedict’s in Glastonbury and St Cecilia in Shepton Mallet.
