Group walk at Memorial Woodlands offers support for those affected by suicide
A community wellbeing event aimed at supporting those affected by suicide is taking place at Bristol Memorial Woodlands on Sunday 13 July.
Organised by local charity Sunflowers Suicide Support, the Storms Walk is a group walk event and is free-of-charge and open to anyone wanting to spend time in a peaceful, reflective environment.
The walk will last approximately an hour and be led by a trained volunteer and a liaison officer, both experienced in offering gentle, informal support.
Rooted in the idea that “we can’t stop the storm, but we can walk through it together,” the Storms Walk offers a space to share and feel supported by others who understand. The charity holds the event regularly in different locations in and around Gloucestershire, with the next event taking place in the grounds of Bristol Memorial Woodlands near Alveston.
Chloe Webb, operations manager at Sunflowers Suicide Support, said: "At Sunflowers, we understand how important it is to have spaces where people can connect, reflect, and feel less alone. The Storms Walk is about walking alongside one another, through grief, through silence, through conversation. Whether someone wants to talk or simply be in the presence of others who understand, this event offers a gentle step towards healing."
Mireille Hayden, a grief and bereavement expert at Bristol Memorial Woodlands, who will also be attending the event, said: “Grief, particularly after suicide, can be incredibly isolating. This Storms Walk is about coming together, without judgement or expectation. It’s a simple yet meaningful way for people to feel supported, seen, and less alone.”
Bristol Memorial Woodlands offers a peaceful and dignified funeral setting with 100 acres of burial woodland, providing families with a place to visit and remember loved ones for years to come.
Attendees are invited to arrive from 10:45am for an 11:00am start and are advised to wear comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for the outdoors. Families and dogs on leads are welcome.
