Bristol Memorial Woodland Trust Hosts Workshop on Lasting Powers of Attorney

Local charity Bristol Memorial Woodland Trust has announced the latest details of an informative workshop on Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) to be hosted at Memorial Woodlands, Earthcott Green.

The workshop is part of a series of events planned by the Trust following the launch of its end-of-life resources this year. The Trust partnered with North Bristol NHS Trust and Gentle Dusk to create and distribute two booklets aimed at helping people navigate the practical and emotional issues following the death of a loved one.

The resources have been so positively received, both by end-of-life professionals and families who have experienced loss, that Bristol Memorial Woodland Trust has designed several workshops, to extend the support.

Setting up an LPA is a straightforward yet vital step in protecting your future. By appointing a trusted individual to manage any health, welfare, property or financial affairs, people can ensure their wishes are respected should they ever be unable to make decisions for themselves.

This engaging afternoon session will guide attendees through the key elements of LPAs, explain why they are so important, and outline the essential steps involved in completing the documents correctly.

The workshop will also offer practical tips to avoid common pitfalls, along with opportunities to ask questions and receive clear, independent advice.

The session will be led by Mireille Herbert Hayden, Health Psychologist and Founding Director of Gentle Dusk, alongside Maria Piroli, Gentle Dusk Associate and Lead in LPAs, wills and funeral planning.

Mireille Hayden said: “Putting a Lasting Power of Attorney in place is one of the most important steps you can take to protect yourself and the people you love.

“This session is about simplifying the process, sharing practical guidance and giving people the confidence to make informed choices about their future.

“The workshop comes on the back of the launch of our end-of-life resources which are proving extremely popular with staff at the hospital, in GP surgeries and at care homes.

“Setting up an LPA is just one way people can help ease the stress that often comes with someone’s end-of-life journey, it’s a really worthwhile tool to learn about.”

The workshop will run on Thursday 22 January from 2pm-4pm and is suitable for both professionals and members of the public who wish to better understand LPAs for themselves or to support others.

To book a place, please register in advance.
