An Exhibition in time for Christmas!
Until Sunday 7th December, Durlston Country Park’s Fine Foundation Gallery will be showcasing the latest engravings by the South-west Guild of Glass Engravers in their exhibition ‘Contemporary Engraved Glass’. The exhibition will highlight the fascinating craft of glass engraving and include some fantastic unique gifts just in time for Christmas. The exhibition will be open daily from 10.30am – 4pm.
Artist Simon Whistler once described glass engraving as “light trapped between two polished skins. Scratch the surface and light is released at that place. The engraver's task is to find and release the light in the way that best expresses his ideas”.
The South-West branch of the Guild of Glass Engravers was formed in March 1979 and is still going strong and is the only organisation in the UK specifically dedicated to the art of glass engraving. Having exhibited in Durlston’s Fine Foundation Gallery previously, this year they wanted to include smaller scale items that are perfect for a unique Christmas gift.
Rob Page from the South-West Guild of Glass Engravers says “Make sure to visit our exhibition of engraved glass in the Fine Foundation Gallery of Durlston Country Park. There is plenty to see and do at the park plus something to suit all tastes and ages in the exhibition. Entry is free and you can try your hand at engraving too!”
Durlston Country Park’s Shannon Dugdale says “I’m really looking forward to this ‘Contemporary Engraved Glass’ exhibition, the work is so incredibly detailed and you can see the level of skill in each unique piece of art, perfect for a Christmas gift.”
