Southville charity shop celebrates Pride window competition win

The St Peter’s Hospice shop in Southville has been crowned one of the winners of the Charity Retail Consultancy’s (CRC) Pride Retail Display Competition, after impressing judges with a colourful display created with the help of the local community.

The shop’s Pride-inspired window brought together a local primary school and out-of-school care club, who were invited to design Pride outfits and colourful rainbows featuring their own messages of positivity and kindness.

The community-created designs helped bring the window to life while reflecting St Peter’s Hospice’s commitment to putting community at the heart of what it does.

The shop’s primary Pride message, ‘Whoever you are, we’re with you’, was designed to reflect the Hospice’s commitment that its care is for everyone. The colourful outfits and creative designs also captured the campaign’s secondary message, ‘Wear it with Pride’.

The CRC judges praised the Southville team for finding an inclusive and creative way to involve local children and community groups, making the window a true reflection of the area it serves.

John Broomhead, Retail Director at St Peter’s Hospice, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that our Southville shop has been recognised in the Charity Retail Consultancy’s Pride Retail Display Competition. The team wanted to create something that celebrated Pride while also bringing our local community together, and the response from the schools and community groups was fantastic.

“Seeing the children’s creativity, positivity and kindness come together in the window was incredibly special. Our message, ‘Whoever you are, we’re with you’, reflects what Hospice is all about – making sure everyone feels supported and cared for. This award is a wonderful recognition of the shop team and everyone in the community who helped make the display possible.”

Lauren Armstrong, Assistant Manager of the Southville shop, in North Street, said: “Hospice shops play an important role beyond raising vital funds, providing opportunities to connect with and celebrate the communities they serve.

“The children who created the artwork have come to see their designs with friends and family. We’d like to thank all the local schools, children’s groups and everyone who contributed their creativity and messages to the Pride display!”

The Charity Retail Consultancy has run the competition for the past five years as a way to encourage support, allyship and highlight how inclusive charity shops are.

St Peter’s Hospice has more than 40 retail shops throughout Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

Funds raised through the charity’s retail outlets go towards providing care to patients and their families. It costs around £30,000 a day to run the Hospice so every donation and every purchase makes a difference.
