Join the Great Dorset Beach Clean 2026: A Free, Family Friendly Easter Activity to Help Keep our Coast Clean

Dorset residents and visitors are invited to roll up their sleeves and make a real difference this Easter as the Great Dorset Beach Clean returns from 1 – 12 April 2026.

With clean-ups taking place across the Dorset coastline, this free event offers a fun, feel-good activity for families and individuals to take part in.

Organised by volunteer and community groups across the county, the Great Dorset Beach Clean encourages people to get outside, enjoy our stunning coastline, and help protect the local environment.

Last year’s event saw an incredible community effort, with:

  • 297 volunteers taking part

  • 17 beaches cleaned

  • 330kg of rubbish removed from the shoreline

This year, organisers hope to make an even bigger impact.

A Meaningful Easter Holiday Activity

Taking part is simple: choose a beach clean near you, turn up, and join the friendly teams making a difference. It’s a great way to:

  • Spend quality time outdoors with family and friends

  • Learn about the importance of caring for the environment

  • Meet like-minded people in your community

  • Help protect Dorset’s beautiful coastline for wildlife and future generations

All equipment will be provided; however, participants are encouraged to bring their own gloves and wear suitable clothing for coastal conditions.

How to Get Involved

A full list of beach clean locations, dates, and times can be found at Great Dorset Beach Clean – Litter Free Dorset

You can also organise your own beach clean, email litterfreedorset@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk  to get started.

Emma Jackson, Litter Free Dorset Project Support Officer, said: “Beach cleans are a simple but powerful way for communities to come together to reduce marine litter and protect our beautiful coastline. Alongside the environmental benefits, volunteers also enjoy the social aspect, the boost to physical wellbeing, and the chance to breathe in plenty of fresh sea air.”
