Older women turn up the volume on WASPI: The NaNaz debut single '60 Lies'
South Wales punk band The NaNaz have released their first single, ‘60 Lies’, in support of the WASPI (Women Against State Pension Inequality) campaign. The powerful track and video highlight the injustice faced by 3 million women who lost up to five years of pension entitlement.
Formed from the Nana Punk workshops, The NaNaz prove that so-called “older” women have fire, fury and fun to bring to the stage. They’re the real Riot Women – a zeitgeist moment of wisdom and power, and a reminder that punk has no age limit.
“We may be older women, but we’re not staying quiet. Punk has always been about truth-telling, and this is our truth,” say The NaNaz.
The track was produced by Skindred’s Jeff Rose.
With BBC drama “Riot Women” soon to hit screens, Which tells the story of Five menopausal women who form a punk rock band to take part in a local talent contest, and suddenly find they have a lot more to shout about than they ever imagined. The NaNaz are the living proof of the creative force of women over 50 – louder, stronger, and unapologetically themselves.
Formed in 2024 out of the Nana Punk workshops for women over 50, The NaNaz are an all-female Welsh band with attitude. Their sound draws inspiration from pioneering acts such as The Au Pairs, Raincoats, Poly Styrene, and X-Ray Spex, while forging a unique identity that blends punk urgency with art-rock edge.
Since their formation, the band have been going from strength to strength. Following a sold-out show in Newport earlier this year, they are now preparing for their first headline performance in Cardiff.
