New Postcodes added to St Peter's Hospice Christmas tree collection service
Local charity St Peter’s Hospice has announced that its popular Christmas tree collection service will return for another year this festive season, with even more households now able to benefit.
The hassle-free service offers residents across Bristol and North Somerset a convenient and eco-friendly way to dispose of their real trees, while helping to raise necessary funds for the city’s only adult hospice.
From 9-11 January, volunteers will be collecting trees directly from doorsteps across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Pill, Clevedon, Portishead, Long Ashton, Nailsea, and Backwell. BS6, BS8 and BS11 postcodes have also been added this year, while BS3 was a new postcode last year.
In return, residents are asked to make a suggested donation of £20-£25 per tree, with every penny helping St Peter’s Hospice continue supporting patients and their families as they deal with serious illness and bereavement.
Caitlin Logan, Events Fundraising Manager at St Peter’s Hospice, said: “Last year, our amazing supporters helped us raise £20,000 through the Christmas tree collection and we collected over 1000 trees from doorsteps across the area. This year, we hope to raise even more.
“The support of residents across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire is vital for making this happen. Every tree collected helps us provide vital care and comfort for patients and their families, while also protecting the environment. It’s an easy, meaningful way to make a difference to your community.”
The trees collected will be recycled sustainably, turned into wood chippings to be used as mulch at local allotments, used as enrichment for animals at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, or converted into energy via a biomass boiler at Blaise Plant Nursery.
Taking part is simple: sign up online using your postcode, leave your tree outside your home on 9 January, and St Peter’s Hospice will handle the rest. All trees will be collected by the end of the day on 11 January.
