Future Farming events to help families pass business to next generation

Three events aimed at advising farming families on handing down an agricultural business to the next generation are being planned in the South West.

National law firm Clarke Willmott in partnership with Lloyds Bank, chartered accountants Albert Goodman and chartered surveyors Greenslade Taylor Hunt, will hold the events in Bridgwater, Exeter and Wincanton in February and March.

The in-person events, called Farming into the Future, will cover everything family farmers need to know about succession planning with a panel of expert advisers.

Esther Woolford, partner and head of the agriculture sector at Clarke Willmott, said: “Handing down the family farming business to the next generation can be tricky. Aside from the usual intricacies of transferring a business there are often multi-layered familial complexities to take into account too.

“We will cover how to get the conversation started between all relevant parties, look at what to do if perhaps the older generation isn’t ready to hand over and how to ensure the younger generation knows everything they need to know.

“In the run up to the events, a series of podcasts will be released featuring the experts in conversation. Hopefully these podcasts will prompt you to have your own questions, which you can ask our panel of experts at the seminar.”

The events will take place on Thursday 24 February at Junction 24 in Bridgwater, Tuesday 1 March at The Devon Hotel in Exeter and Thursday 17 March at Wincanton Racecourse.

All events will start at 6pm with refreshments followed by presentations, a Q&A and a two-course hot supper.
