Sunshine safari just the ticket for school children

A sunshine safari to Longleat proved to be just the ticket for a group of Weston-super-Mare school children, thanks to the local Rotary Club and coach operator Bakers Dolphin.

A party of 34 youngsters from four of the resort’s primary schools, plus eight teachers and six Rotarians enjoyed a walk on the wild side in the summer sunshine this week.

Every year, Kids Out, the fun and happiness charity set up by Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland, provides memorable fun days out for thousands of youngsters around the country aged between five and 11.

Since 2012 – with the exception of 2020 and 2021, because of the pandemic – Weston-super-Mare’s Rotary Club has made tracks for Longleat with a party of children.

The youngsters were from Ashcombe Primary School, Bournville Primary School, Christchurch C of E Primary School and Windwhistle Primary School.

Weston-super-Mare Rotary Club Member Clive Morris said: “These days are always a delight to organise as they bring such joy to the children.

“This year, the sun shone down on us and we could have been forgiven for thinking we really were on safari somewhere a lot further afield!

“We are, as ever, grateful to Bakers Dolphin for helping to make a very memorable day for the children, getting us to and from Longleat in safety and style.

“It was a long day and it was very warm, but the smiles on the faces of the children made it all so rewarding. And, of course, several of the children had never seen animals such as lions, tigers, giraffes and so on in real life so it was quite an experience for them.

Bakers Dolphin sales and marketing director Amanda Harrington said: “This is one of the things we love about what we do – seeing smiles on the faces of a coach-full of travellers who have enjoyed a memorable day out.

“It’s always a pleasure to join Weston Rotary on these trips, providing an enjoyable experience for children who really deserve it.

“Our drivers always find it so rewarding to know that they have played a part in putting smiles on the faces of many local children.”
