New support programme to help men affected by cancer

A new programme of support launching in Bristol is aimed at helping men affected by cancer, with outdoor-focussed days and courses led by nature-based practitioners.

Natural Academy, based at Penny Brohn’s Ham Green House in Pill, is inviting men living with cancer or those who have been affected by cancer in the past, to the NatureWell For Men event, Round the Fire, on Wednesday 25 October.

Part of a new series of outdoor days and courses, this first short-day event will include simple craft exercises, explore nature connection and look at ways that nature can further support the health and wellbeing of men affected by cancer.

Natural Academy co-founder, Michéal Connors, said: “NatureWell for Men will be led by trained ecopsychologists and nature-based practitioners with over 15 years’ experience of working with people outdoors and also specifically people affected by cancer.

“We will be accessing our wonderful outdoor spaces at Ham Green House, including our new SkyView education and well-being area, and we will ensure that the environment is comfortable, friendly, warm and inviting for those who join us.

“Attendees will have time to be outdoors together learning about nature, doing simple outdoor crafts, connecting to nature and having chats around the fire.

“Dealing with cancer can be very challenging and can affect men in profound ways. Men also don’t always have the support system in place to be able to deal with what emerges in the journey with cancer.

“We will be using our evidence-based NatureWell approach which promotes a range of useful ideas, tools and practices that people will be able to apply to their every day lives.”

Natural Academy is a not-for-profit community interest company founded in 2008 and is the first dedicated ecopsychology educational institution in Europe.

It provides a pathway for individuals to grow a career in working with people in nature for health, healing and deeper purpose.

Natural Academy runs training courses, online training and workshop days and it also developed the NatureWell approach which is the foundation of a national programme in health, working within the NHS.
