Portishead RBL win in stormy bowls event

Portishead RBL win in stormy bowls event

A violent storm that marked the end of the heatwave flooded the West Backwell Bowls Club green to bring the 30th annual Ladies Open Triples Tournament to a sudden end.

The event was sponsored by Parker’s Estate Agents and the weather hit late enough for Portishead Royal British Legion to be crowned winners. The cup and monetary prizes presentation, carried out by Parker’s Sales Negotiator, Lisa Staffieri, had to be moved to the clubhouse.

Twenty-four teams competed throughout the day in a closely-fought tournament organised by Cynthia Burgess.

Portishead RBL clinched the trophy with Nailsea Bowls Club second and Clevedon Promenade Bowls Club third.
